Rundown:

Today’s show features a small family of bands that have semi-recently had to deal with a death.  The drummer of Maserati laid down tracks for a new album, but never got to see its ultimate completion.  Steve Moore of Zombi lent a hand on the album.  We start this week with a recently released track by Mr. Moore.

For more of Moore check out the projects Miracle and Titan. Stellar.

From the Steve Moore track we move onto the title track from the new Maserati album, Pyramid of the Sun.  Here is the last interview done with the full band before Jerry Fuchs’s untimely death:

We next move deeper down the well of obscurity to a couple bands from Los Angeles.  I am fairly certain the degree of my affection for this next act is deeply rooted in my recent constant car ride playlist consisting of solely the collection of music entitled Twitch by Ministry.

The Present Moment actually ranges in styles across the full length, The High Road, available for download here. On this show I play 2 songs from the album (and it’s the only band I’ve played more than one track from this week so you can hear how taken with it I am).

Deathday Party is up next with a track off of their digital release, Ghost Pains. As mentioned in the show I am really hoping it is an off-handed reference to Nick Cave’s Birthday Party.

Next up is Cvlts (perhaps not as mysterious as I may allude in the show) with a track off of their Lvsts release. “CVLTS began as the duo of Gaurav Bashyakarla and Josh Thomas in May of 2010. Their first ever recording session was what eventually became LVST and shortly there after they brought in Brian Shattuck to round the band and move on into live performances.” (Mischka Bloglin)

Kite Club (what I said of mysteriousness about Cvlts goes equally for this band) steps in with a track off of their Goodtime Tea Show digital release available here.

Gary War brings us the next track off of the EP, Police Water.

And we finish this week’s show with a track from Majeure (A.E. Paterra - bandmate of Steve Moore in Zombi) as taken from the album Timespan.

Rundown:

Greatest Hits is how we’re starting this show. The name of the band implores that this is how I should start it so yea, done. The first track is entitled, “Make You Mine,” and if it doesn’t then check this super fun video for the second track played, “Stop And Go,” right here:

Next, we visit in on a small label called Light Lodge. With just 4 releases out so far they have a promising future with acts like Pure Ecstasy, Sleep∞Over, and Silver Pines. Check this live performance by Silver Pines here:

Perhaps you are familiar with Weird Forest. Perhaps you are familiar with The Pack and Lil B.  Up until hearing the “Rain In England” I had no idea why the two should ever meet.  Lil B is perhaps so far off the grid that he has no idea that he has no idea what he is doing.  Perhaps.  Is his lunacy actually genius?  I’m not even going to speculate.  I am just going to enjoy the listen.

The clip heard on the show is from this Fader vid:

So, there’s actually no sign of Witch House (or Drag or whatever you want to call it) dying as mentioned in an article I posted for Ep. 1.  Downtempo electronic music often with this dark hip-hop slant is not (pardon this) slowing down.  I know I have been prepared for a while, but here’s another article on this movement entitled Get Ready For The Slowness. Today, I’m playing a couple tracks off the latest TriAngle release from oOoOO.  Altered Zones just put this label profile up on TriAngle as well.  Enjoy the slowness. (Oh yea, apparently oOoOO is just pronounced as “O” or “Oh.”  Zany.)

Last episode (Ep.2) had us in Chicago for some footwork/juke.  This week we’re in Chicago again, but hitting on a completely different angle.  Sci-Fi and Horror of the 1980s has more to do with this music than how fast you can move your feet.  Valis brings us some dark e.b.m. while Gatekeeper brings us back to the early days of Zombi or perhaps more precisely the influences of them both: John Carpenter, Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, Goblin, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, etc. Check this article on 20JazzFunkGreats featuring Valis.
