The 8th edition of Nothing Under The Sun aired originally on WESU at… oh wait, that’s right, it’s actually here before it’s anywhere else this time around. However, it normally airs from 2-3AM on the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month (Tuesday night).
Episode 8 was slated for last week, but an unfortunate cluster of overwrought studios had me delay it until now. Studios? Yep, that’s right. I don’t just put this together on a laptop or some such thing. Most times, the original sound source is analog (record or tape or my voice). As you have noticed I sometimes take bits of the show and put effects on them too. This is all very unimportant, but I thought it worth noting and perhaps this picture of what the radio show looks like while mixing down will be of some fun to you (and maybe not). Enjoy the show.
Next up we move on to a group of artists all featured on the “Burlington, Vermont” 8 cassette compilation put out by NNA Tapes. Admittedly, I’ve stuck with the poppy side of this collection. Perhaps I will revisit it in the not so distant future - perhaps. I play tracks by Toby Aronson, Lawrence Welks & Our Bear To Cross, Ryan Power, and Tooth Ache. Tooth Ache then makes a second appearance on the show with her 7” release on Father/Daughter Records. Here is a video for this song as well:
From there we move onto //Tense//. Mischka released this 7” - their second release. The B-Side of this release is a witchy, darkened cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.” “Turn It Off” has a video - here it is:
Time to put on your dancing shoes. I featured a track on from the Soul Jazz Records Future Bass collection a few shows back. A 12” from this series was just released for the artist, Untold. It’s seriously (without any hint of hyperbole) a banger. Mash out to this for a few. I’ll bring you back to earth fast with the last couple bands.
New Haven, CT USA. Estrogen Highs and Nightbitch can both call this city home. Garage and cock rock (respectively). Rock and roll.
Estrogen Highs’s guitarist, writer and singer/hollerer, Stefan wasn’t too hip on depending on anyone else handling their latest record - he took to a more hands on approach (more punk/more d.i.y./…). Stefan and Kryssi Battalene started Gramery Records and released “Friends & Relatives.” We hear the track “Irresponsibility.” They kick off a tour on 1/1/11. Catch ‘em all across the US (check the Gramery Records link above for specifics).
Nightbitch is a project started by Ryan Adams (not the country rock star - or as this one refers to himself, the Trve Ryan Adams. The Ryan Adams here is the guitarist for recent Metal Blade signing - black metal act Ipsissimus) and a few notable friends (including Phil of Hour of 13). In between the two songs played here Ryan explains the short and full history of Nightbitch up to the release of “Sex And Magic” on Cyclopean Records.
